Patriot 1

Free men have understood that the old maxim of imperial power which said “the law is in my mouth,” is not only inadequate but is flagrant usurpation of God-given liberties. John Locke conclusively demonstrated that since the Creator endowed each individual with the right to govern himself according to the laws of God, there is no such thing as “the divine right of the kings” to govern us. But President Obama does not believe this at all. He indeed believes the law is in his mouth. But, of course, like King Charles ofEngland, it is only for the good of “We the Rabble.”

“What I’m not going to do,” said the president, “is wait for Congress. So whenever we have an opportunity and I have the executive authority to go ahead and get some things done, we’re just gonna go ahead and do ‘em” Obama told 60 Minutes.

Dodd-Frank

Last year, as part of the Dodd-Frank Act that was crammed through Congress, a brand new bureaucracy was minted: The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. This is designed for the imperial president and his socialistic minions in the Democratic Party to exercise vast new powers in regulating the economy. These include establishing new regulations over financial institutions; regulations over mortgage companies; regulations over debt collectors; regulations over payday lenders; and centralized powers flowing from the Politburo that we used to call the White House.

In his “hurry-up offense,” which means before information actually has time to be digested by the public, Obama nominated Richard Cordray as head of the agency. This would enable the CFPB to act as a Federal Bureau for “Labor Relations” and cut-off any more freedom-loving companies like rogue Boeing from relocating in “right to work states.”

But the Republicans balked. They opposed Cordray’s appointment on the sensible grounds that the new Bureau needs to be streamlined and re-configured to ratchet-down its vast new powers. Richard Shelby (R-AL) said, “Until Obama addresses our concerns by supporting a few reasonable structural changes, we will not confirm anyone to lead it.” “No accountability, no confirmation.”

Shelby, the ranking member of the Banking Committee, like most of the Republicans, I suppose, think they are dealing with just another wild-eyed liberal in Obama. That is not Obama. His mold is more of a communist, aka “community organizer” whose entire mantra is revolution by power-plays and back-door moves. He never has been a “uniter” to work with the other side.

No Accountability

“No accountability” is precisely what Socialists like Obama want and must have. Thus, after Congress made its will emphatically known with a resounding “NO!” Obama waited until the Senate is recessed and made the appointment anyway! Then, he invokes Article II, Sec. 2, clause 3 which entitles the President to make temporary appointments in times of emergency. “In time of emergency only” is exactly how Alexander Hamilton put it. Ordinarily, the “power of appointment is confined to the President and Senate jointly, and can be therefore only be exercised during the session of the Senate…” (Hamilton). This was to keep power-graspers like Obama at bay.

Be that as it may, even if it is now indeed a time of “emergency”—and it probably is for Barack Obama if he is to get his agenda rammed through—Congress had already rejected the nominee until the newly formed agency could be reviewed and made more accountable to the people. So it stated.

Worse, Obama blatantly thumbed his nose at the American people—for the Congress is our representation—as has been going on since his militant thugs have taken over Washington, D.C. And though he has boasted that he “taught the Constitution” for 10 years—he reveres Saul Alinsky’s Communism more highly than the Hamilton’s of the world and has been invoking its playbook Rules for Radicals much more consistently than the Constitution.

Perhaps that is why every single issue that comes before the American people is punctuated by Obama’s own lies of years gone by. Hammering Bush for “reckless abuse of power,” Obama whined in 2008. Bush “makes up laws as he goes along.” Yea, verily. Thou art the man.

But the main problem perhaps is broader than Obama himself. There is no constitutional authority for the CFPB to exist. Americans do not wish Washington, D.C. to create another bureaucratic monster, only to have Republicans promise to keep it caged in chains with little food and water. This merely awaits another flagrantly haughty President to shovel more money and power into its mouth. We want the monster destroyed! What’s more, Congress needs now to let the president know that the Law is NOT in his mouth, and that he, too, must abide by the letter and intent of the Constitution.

    Excellent article, Patriot 1!

Everyone needs to call their congressman and tell them to repeal Dodd-Frank and to censure Obama’s unconstitutional actions.
